A person who contaminated treats with sedative and gave them to children at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two young males who were nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.

She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he managed.

The defendant played a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the defendant had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in summer 2025.

The legal representative added: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC explained materials including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were found, and his stepson alerted the police about his concerns.

She stated the man continued to play the "treat game" with six boys that night - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she added.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.

The prosecutor said the children were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement once more.

She explained Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
